TexMex Country

TexMex Country

From Florida to Texas

Moving is stressful, no matter how early you start packing. You get it done at the very last minute, and if you are lucky, you have good friends helping you.

Therefore, a huge "Thank you!"
to
Joe, Ana, Missy, Marc and Sebastian
- without you we would still be in Gainesville ;)

Moving day

We left on Monday, May 18th in the morning around 11am
(to see the pictures in actual size click on the picture)

Texting with Melissa while walking Tiger :)
Tiger cried for an hour, then he decided that the safest place in the truck was under the passenger seat Crossing the state lineNot sure if the sign says the truth ...
It is hard to miss - we are in Texas now
The skyline of Houston - and the worst roads on the tripWe stopped near Victoria (nice area btw) at a rest area and Volker took Tiger for a walk
(even a cat needs to stretch once in a while)
Finally, after two days on the road (12 hrs each) we are near Brownsville
Tiger was more relaxed on the second dayArriving at our new home

Neighborhood view down the street We had to spend two more days in a motel because the previous owner couldn't make it to the closing on Wednesday morning, but on Thursday we moved in, and it took less than two hours to unload the truck. Our realtor Joe was of great help. We unpacked boxes until late evening and then ....
.... our first dinner : scrambled eggs and bread
Note:
The first night was terrible. Tiger cried all night long. He was not happy ...
Volker was not happy when he realized that there is no wiring for telephone or TV in bedroom2 and 3.
I was not happy because the previous owner left the house very, very filthy.
All of us are not happy because there is a critter problem (ants, spiders, bugs) in the house

A few days later

We have Internet thanks to Volker.
It is much much cleaner now.
Most boxes are unpacked (except for the ones we need furniture for).
The dishwasher is rusty and needs to be replaced.
Tiger is not as skittish anymore but has developped a very annoying behavior at night. He scratches at the door, tears down the blinds, meows constantly and we have to lock him up in the bathroom once in a while.
We could not get rid of the invading pest, but we don't give up.

How it looks now
Front
dining room
living room, missing some furniture
My side in our office. Tiger loves the windowsill.
Kitchen
Today (Friday, 29th) we got the new dishwasher.

There is a lot of work ahead of us - and, more surprises!
