Our last day took us to the Rio Grande Village, the Chihuahua Desert area.
This time we didn't take the same route into the park, instead we drove down the SR118 through Marathon. I liked it much better.
There are many different plants in the Chihuahua Desert, most of them cacti, of course.

We hadn't seen a single animal so far, but there we got lucky. A little bird, a busy one too.
This one was funny. We were greeted by a friendly looking Prickly Pear ;- )
We drove through a tunnel and stopped at the next viewpoint. There I saw many butterflies. Unfortunately the Yellow Jacks had seen me first, and I took off.
There is a little oasis in the park, a former ranch, and we had our picnic there
Then it was time to burn some caloires
We walked up a hill from where we had a good view. The protected area across the river is called Maderas
del Carmen.

Big Bend National Park is roughly the size of the state of Rhode Island. The river is the natural boundary to Mexico
We really enjoyed the view and got quite lazy.
Our last stop was a short nature trail. From there we were hoping to watch another beautiful sunset.
hand crafted arts from the Mexican site for sale. Unfortunately it is legally not allowed to be purchased. Too bad, I really liked the scorpions.
